Blog Traffic and Income Report – September 2017

Erik Entrepreneurship, Thoughts of a Mastermind 9 Comments

Welcome to the ninth monthly Blog Traffic and Income Report for The Mastermind Within! For new readers, each month, I post the traffic statistics and income The Mastermind Within blog has earned and comment on any changes, improvements, and disappointments. I want to be as transparent as possible, because true improvement can happen only when you get the raw details of a situation.

This post will take the following form: first, a recap of the various posts written throughout the month. Second, the traffic and income statistics which are gathered from Google Analytics and the various affiliate and ad networks The Mastermind Within takes part in. Third, I will discuss what changes or strategies I have for the next month, October 2017, to try to grow traffic and make money. As always, any and all feedback is gladly welcomed. I know that I don’t know everything about blogging. (not even close)

September 2017 Post Summary

In September, I posted 9 times. As mentioned in my most recent goals post, I want to post 175 times in 2017. In the first 8 months, there were 124 posts. With 9 posts in September, that makes 133 for the year. With 3 months left, roughly 14 posts a month will get me to my goal!

I had a few posts on the general blog topics:  the August Traffic Report, and my goals update for August.

I had 6 posts in August.  Here is a list of the non-book review posts I wrote in August:

I didn’t post any book reviews.

Guest Appearances

I had 3 appearances on other platforms this past month.

On September 18th, I had three guest posts go out:

  • I interviewed on Ben’s blog at From Cents to Retirement and talked about my goals and dreams. He’s a big real estate mogul overseas in Europe. I really liked doing this interview.
  • Lance, who blogs at The Strategic Dollar, followed up my Dollars & Debts interview with a post on house hacking: Why Every College Graduate Needs to Consider House Hacking. It really is a great strategy!
  • Owen, Mr. Plan Easy Canada himself also asked if I could contribute a post on house hacking to his blog. These were some very fun posts to write!

In October, I’ll be on the FIRE Drill Podcast. Look out for my episode during the middle of the month!

Next… on to the numbers!

September 2017 Blog Statistics

In September 2017, the blog had 2,700 page views and I made $8.53!! Big money!! (You think I can retire off this? Joking!) This represents a decrease of 9% in viewership month over month.

September 2017 Google Analytics Summary

Blog Income google analytics comparison

I passed $100 made this year!! 🙂 That’s big time baby!!!!

In the Income Report, you can see the breakdown of revenue for the month of September: I have affiliates links throughout the site from Bluehost, Amazon, MyFinance, SoFi, and Xtheme. In addition, I utilize Google AdSense. As the page views increase, these numbers should increase. Time will tell; this is a fun experiment!

I am very excited the number of email subscribers following The Mastermind Within has continued to increase! THANK YOU READERS AND SUBSCRIBERS 🙂 In May, The FREE Personal Finance Income Statement was a big contributor to our increase in total subscribers, and it has continued. I’ve been promoting this tool on Quora, Twitter, and it’s lead to a fairly substantial increase in subscribers. I’m really pleased at how this tool has been received.

Overall, the blog is doing fairly well! As you can see above, 240 subscribers and 26,043 views in 9 months is pretty good, but far from great (especially if I want to take this a solid income stream) By staying consistent, the train will keep humming!

Action Steps for September

Consistency is the key to blogging. September will be another busy month, as will October –  I’m going to FinCon, so I’m excited for that!!! 🙂 I’m also going to California with my family. This will be a much needed break. This past weekend, I was fatigued and didn’t make it out of bed on Saturday. We are all human – going to bed past midnight and waking up at 6 to work isn’t healthy.

I’m a little bit disappointed that the views this month didn’t top 3,000, but it’s motivating and means I have to stay consistent. I’m happy with my email list growth, but will have to stay positive and continue to provide great content.

In the coming months, I will keep providing value through posts and products, continue to be consistent with my posting, and continue to grow each and every day! 🙂

How did September go for your blog or website? What tips or tricks could you share with me to improve The Mastermind Within?

  1. Nice work, Erik! I’m curious to see if any of the marketing education you are going through can apply to the blog to help drive more traffic.

Ironically, today I released an update on my blog goals for 2017…

  2. Congrats on hitting your first $100 month. That is a nice milestone. Would be nice to consistently keep hitting the triple digits. Still haven’t even hit the 1 year mark for the blog so plenty of time. Keep it up!

  3. Congrats on a great month and hitting the $100 mark! It’s good to see that your financial tool is doing well too and helping others. Consistency is definitely the key. Sometimes it’s tough to get motivation to write, but I let it happen naturally to get the best results. I hope you have a nice trip to California 🙂

  4. I am really impressed with the number of subscribers your blog is getting. This is one of the hardest thing to grow. Do you have any further plan for social media to expand your reach? If you have discovered any on Pinterest or instagram, share with us.

  5. Consistency is definitely key! I think one of the hardest things about blogging is not seeing your hard work immediately. It takes hours and months of work to start seeing your work paid off. Keep it up!
