Blog Traffic and Income Report – April 2017

Erik Thoughts of a Mastermind 28 Comments

Welcome to the fourth monthly Blog Traffic and Income Report for The Mastermind Within! Each month, we will be posting our blog statistics to give readers an understanding of the nuts and bolts of what Erik, Jake, and Henry are doing and achieving here at The Mastermind Within.

This post will take the following form: first, a recap of the various posts written by Erik, Jake and Henry throughout the month. Second, the traffic and income statistics which are gathered from Google Analytics and the various affiliate and ad networks The Mastermind Within takes part in. Third, we will discuss what changes or strategies we have for the next month, April 2017, to try to grow traffic and make money. As always, any and all feedback is gladly welcomed. I know that I don’t know everything about blogging. (not even close)

Next… on to the numbers!

April 2017 Blog Statistics

In April 2017, we had 3,550 page views and we made $4.70!! Big money!! (You think we can retire off this? Joking!) This represents a increase of 12% in viewership month over month.

April 2017 Google Analytics Summary

april google analytics

April was our best month yet for traffic. While the increase in traffic month over month was only 12%, our bounce rate was down which shows the improved site design is working. The bounce rate and average session statistics should continue to improve as we keep putting out high quality content.

April 2017 Income Report

April 2017 Income Report

In the Income Report, you can see the breakdown of revenue for the month of April: we have affiliates links throughout the site from Bluehost, Amazon, MyFinance, SoFi, and Xtheme. In addition, we utilize Google AdSense. As the page views increase, these numbers should increase. Time will tell; this is a fun experiment!

We are very excited that we were able to more than double the number of email subscribers following The Mastermind Within! THANK YOU READERS AND SUBSCRIBERS 🙂 The FREE Debt Destruction Tool was a big contributor to our increase in total subscribers. In addition, there are a number of people who came over from Quora. Erik has increased his follower-ship on Quora to over 90 people and has received over 85k views.

We are improving! As you can see above, 73 subscribers and 11,332 views in 4 months is pretty good, but far from great (especially if we want to take this full time.) By staying consistent, we will be able to keep this train humming!

Action Steps for May

We created a lot of momentum for May in April. We were able to put together a couple freebies, and will continue to post high quality content. More specifically, in May, we are going to look to continue to grow traffic through freebies (webinars, tools, and content). Erik is building a strong following on Quora, and our search engine game is improving. May will be our best month, no doubt about it!

Also, we spent a fair amount of time commenting on other people’s blogs. We do this for two reasons: one, it is part of our mission statement. We want to build a community where knowledge can accumulate and ideas can prosper.

The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:

The Mastermind Within hopes to build a collaborative community where ideas can flow openly, and readers can build knowledge and experience amazing personal growth.

The second reason is it is a fairly decent method to get traction in the blogosphere. By commenting on the following sites, we were able to get a majority of our page views:

Take Your Success Mustard Seed Money Freedom 40 Plan I Saved 5k
Life and My Finances Financial Samurai Be Net Worthy Financially Alert
Making Sense of Cents Penny and Rich ESI Money Enwealthen
Dividend Life Buy, Hold Long Epic Quiver Go Finance Yourself
Gen Y Finance Guy Biglaw Investor The Frugal Farmer Abovare
Simple Money Man Investment Hunting Full Time Finance 1500 Days
Freedom is Groovy Life Zemplified Think Save Retire Debt Discipline
Dirt Road Daisy Pennies and Dollars The Green Swan Mama Fish Saves

In the coming months, we will keep providing value through posts and products, continue to be consistent with our posting, look into SEO, and continue to grow each and every day! 🙂

What do you think is 5,000 views and $100 possible for May?!?

How did April go for your blog or website? What tips or tricks could you share with us to improve our blog?

Thank you MSM for your support 🙂 Theoretically speaking, yes, though it takes time and effort… Goal is 15k by the end of the year for a single month, we can get there! I’m inspired by your work at MustardSeedMoney.com, 30k+ viewers per month and you aren’t even a year old!

Thanks Laurie for the support and compliment. Staying consistent is the #1 key here… We are getting there! 🙂

  2. Fantastic job! It seems like Adsense RPM is down for everyone, which is frustrating, but also par for the course. On the flip side, Nov and December are typically great Adsense months, so that’s something to look forward to :).

  3. Keep at it, guys! You have a great trajectory, and if you keep up that post schedule you’ll continue to grow rapidly.

You might try sharing on Stumbleupon for a quick pageview boost. The typical SU reader destroys your bounce rate and time on site metrics, but over time can give a slow but steady growth in base traffic from the people who do stick around and read your content and subscribe.

Hey Jack, thank you for stopping by and commenting! We have used stumble upon in the past and it’s been hit or miss. It seems to depend what time you post something at to get the full benefit. In February, we had some nice hits, though as of late, it’s been a struggle.

We are growing through freebies 🙂 Thanks again for stopping by

  4. Mrs. Need2Save and I only find time to post once per week. You guys are off to a great start with consistent posting, guest posts, and podcast appearances. How do you find time for all of this and read the books in order to provide reviews?

      Thanks Mr.Need2Save for the comment.

I’m single.. so that’s how I can read and post so much 🙂 I’m also very driven and want to make this experiment work!

  5. Congrats on another great month of 12% increase in traffic over the last month. If you keep on compounding this increase every month, you guy will be growing at a phenomenal rate.

I really enjoy reading your report and getting some great ideas on how I can improve my blog’s traffic too. Thank you for pushing me to use Yoast SEO on my site. I started using that plugin and also use Google analytics and my website’s traffic is getting a lot of organic results from Google.

After my SEO work, my search engine referrals for the month of April exceeded all the previous months’ referrals combined.

Looking to read your next report in May.

  6. You guys are kicking butt! I love it. We’re in the same boat earnings wise, but you’re doing fantastic in page views!

It’s funny. I had also planned to be more active on Quora. I saw an email from SumoMe talking about it as a little-utilized strategy.

I’m enjoying tracking your progress guys!

Quora has been a pretty good source for traffic and an additional way to build a like-minded audience.

Thanks for the comment Dave. I’m hoping we can both pick up the traffic and revenue in the coming months!! 🙂

  7. Congrats on your progress! I love reading fellow bloggers’ monthly reports 😀

I’ve actually never thought of using Quora before. I do have an account with them, but never used it to my advantage.

I’m currently ‘struggling’ with Pinterest right now. I’ve used it to drive traffic to other blogs before and it seems to work well. Although I’ve never actually made an effort to use it at it’s ‘full potential’.

Thanks Adriana for the compliment. I’ve been having a lot of fun with this in 2017! Time will tell as we go on where my efforts are best served, but we are growing so that’s a positive! 🙂

Pinterest is an interesting one. I’m not on there because it’s not as intuitive for me. Maybe I’ll try it in a few months after things get cooking better here.

      Have a good weekend! 🙂

  8. Great job, guys! I read that Quora is a great way to drive visitors to your site, but I haven’t spent much time on it. Your post just gave me the kick in the butt I need.

I just invested in Tailwind today – it’s making Pinterest so much easier since you can schedule everything in advance. I’ve got the next 8 days of pins already scheduled. (One of these days the revenue will offset my expenses.)

I haven’t started an income report because I haven’t made any money yet. I have about $3 sitting in my Adsense account – woohoo! haha. Should I start one anyway?

Hey Krista, thanks for stopping by and commenting! 🙂 Quora is fun and a great community.

I haven’t gotten into Pinterest yet, though hear good things.

I’ve gone back and forth on the income report. I love numbers, so that’s why I enjoy doing them! As you can see, we only have $45 in revenue in 4 months! Not much better!
