Blog Traffic and Income Report – August 2017

Erik Thoughts of a Mastermind 12 Comments

Welcome to the eighth monthly Blog Traffic and Income Report for The Mastermind Within! For new readers, each month, I post the traffic statistics and income The Mastermind Within blog has earned and comment on any changes, improvements, and disappointments. I want to be as transparent as possible, because true improvement can happen only when you get the raw details of a situation.

This post will take the following form: first, a recap of the various posts written throughout the month. Second, the traffic and income statistics which are gathered from Google Analytics and the various affiliate and ad networks The Mastermind Within takes part in. Third, I will discuss what changes or strategies I have for the next month, September 2017, to try to grow traffic and make money. As always, any and all feedback is gladly welcomed. I know that I don’t know everything about blogging. (not even close)

August 2017 Post Summary

In August, I posted 9 times. As mentioned in my most recent goals post, I want to post 175 times in 2017. In the first 7 months, there were 114 posts. With 10 posts in August, that makes 124 for the year. With 4 months left, roughly 12 posts a month will get me to my goal!

I had a few posts on the general blog topics:  the July Traffic Report, and my goals update for July.

I had 6 posts in August.  Here is a list of the non-book review posts I wrote in August:

I had 1 person, Patty Moore, who blogs at WorkingMotherLife, contribute a guest post about work-life balance:

I posted 2 book reviews in August. I actually finished 2 more, but haven’t gotten around to the book reviews.

Lance, who blogs at My Strategic Dollar, featured me in his Dollars and Debts Series, where I shared I had paid off nearly $50k in debt in the past 2.5 years! Crazy!

Next… on to the numbers!

August 2017 Blog Income and Stats

In the Income Report, you can see the breakdown of revenue for the month of June: I have affiliates links throughout the site from Bluehost, Amazon, MyFinance, SoFi, and Xtheme. In addition, I utilize Google AdSense. As the page views increase, these numbers should increase. Time will tell; this is a fun experiment!

I am very excited the number of email subscribers following The Mastermind Within has continued to increase!

August Website Blog Traffic acquisitionTHANK YOU READERS AND SUBSCRIBERS 🙂 In May, The FREE Personal Finance Income Statement was a big contributor to our increase in total subscribers, and it has continued in July and August.

One positive thing is we saw an uptick in search engine traffic. Over 40% of the traffic was from search engines, which is a good sign! Real estate on Google is extremely valuable! 🙂

Overall, the blog is doing fairly well! As you can see above, 202 subscribers and 20,343 views in 8 months is pretty good, but far from great (especially if I want to take this a solid income stream) By staying consistent, the train will keep humming!

Action Steps for September

Consistency is the key to blogging. September will be another busy month, as will October –  I’m going to FinCon, so I’m excited for that!!! 🙂 I have a project at work finishing up in the first week of September, and after that is wrapped up, I will be able to devote more time to writing and growing the blog.

As always, please let me know if there is anything you’d like me to write about.

Also, we spent a fair amount of time commenting on other people’s blogs. We do this for two reasons: one, it is part of our mission statement. We want to build a community where knowledge can accumulate and ideas can prosper.

The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:

The Mastermind Within hopes to build a collaborative community where ideas can flow openly, and readers can build knowledge and experience amazing personal growth.

The second reason is it is a fairly decent method to get traction in the blogosphere. By commenting on the following sites, we were able to get a majority of our page views:

Take Your Success Mustard Seed Money Freedom 40 Plan I Saved 5k
Life and My Finances Miss Mazuma Fiery Millennials Financially Alert

Gen Y Finance Guy Biglaw Investor The Frugal Farmer Abovare
Simple Money Man Investment Hunting Full Time Finance 1500 Days

In the coming months, I will keep providing value through posts and products, continue to be consistent with my posting, and continue to grow each and every day! 🙂

How did August go for your blog or website? What tips or tricks could you share with me to improve The Mastermind Within?

  1. Thanks for the update, Erik. I am excited for the changes around here which you mentioned in a recent post (I have been following, but pressed on time for commenting). I would imagine with summer nearing its end, your page views will continue to increase.
