Hey readers, I haven’t given you an update on what’s going on behind the scenes at The Mastermind Within and want to give you a brief update. This post will contain some thoughts on life as well as some announcements.
Passions, Prioritization and Time Management
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I prioritize my time: am I working towards my goals? Do I go to bed at night happy with how I’ve spent my time that day? Am I passionate about the things I’m doing and am I excited to wake up the next day to do it? With so much going on in life, it’s difficult sometimes to be present in all things I’m doing. For that reason, prioritization and time management is incredibly important.
“If you have more than three priorities, you don’t have any.” – Jim Collins
I have 5 “projects” going on in my life right now: my day job, The Mastermind Within, my hacked house, my e-commerce business, and statistical consulting. Some of these projects ebb and flow for time commitment. For example, my statistical consulting work comes and goes – some weeks I’ll have 10 hours of work, others 0. I have an upcoming study, but haven’t received any work for 2 months. Housing hacking is similar in time commitment, but there are definitely projects I want to pursue: replacing my deck, replacing a few windows, and putting in gutters. If only I didn’t have my day job…
What once was uncomfortable now is comfortable. I’m pleased with my progress and what I’m doing. The e-commerce business is almost done being set-up and at that point, the time commitment will drop so I can focus more on The Mastermind Within.
What are you passionate about and how are you spending your time? For me, I’m passionate about helping people achieve their full potential. I’m passionate about learning and growing as an individual so I can share my experiences with others. I’m passionate about personal finance and building a strong financial base for my future family. Are my daily activities in line with these passions? If not, then I need to review how I’m spending my time and work towards re-aligning my actions towards these passions.
Farewell but not Good Bye
As you may have noticed, I’ve been doing the majority of the posting here on The Mastermind Within. At the beginning, my friend Henry and I started this blog as a way for us to connect with others since we are both passionate about helping others become their best self. Over the past few months, Henry has been prioritizing other things that make him happy and has been living an amazing life – a life I’m inspired by.
Over the last 2 months Henry:
- Left his Corporate Job to explore the world of Real Estate
- Traveled to the edge of the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean
- Back-Packed 334 Kilometers Across Northern Spain
- Attended a Multi-Cultural Wedding – Mayan Calendar Ceremony
- Been on the #1 Career Podcast in Sri Lanka
- Professionally Modeled
- Road Tripped Across the Western United States
I had dinner with him this past Saturday night and we chatted about life, finances, relationships, basketball, everything. We have a lot of similar interests and get along very well. While I’m a little bit sad that we can’t continue build something great together, I’m happy and thankful for the experience.
He wrote out a note for me to share with you:
We live in a world of “Shoulds, Have to-s, Ought to, Musts” and the monkey mind. Of course, there are always a million things “to do”. Another email arrived in your inbox, another friend to catch up with, there is ALWAYS MORE TO DO.
STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW. YOU ONLY HAVE 24 HOURS IN THE DAY.
We all have the same 24 hours in the day, 7 days a week, 365.25 days a year. We can not compare ourselves to what others are doing. We can not live a life to satisfy everyone else around us. We have to satisfy ourselves and once we have understood who we are individually, we are more present, more caring, more thoughtful, more genuine, more sincere, MORE, MORE, MORE. We have much more to share with the world. Go out and share your experiences with the world.
Everyone has a story to tell and an experience to share. You are incredibly wise Henry and I’m excited to see the places you go in the future. Thank you Henry for your time at The Mastermind Within – you are an inspiration to me and a great friend 🙂 (This is definitely not good-bye though – we will continue to play basketball on the weekends!)
We have Bigger Fish to Fry
In February, I connected with a high school friend Jake, a local small business consultant and entrepreneur and asked if he could give me some tips on our site. He convinced me to allow him to join the team and he was instrumental in making the site look the way it does. He stressed clarity and a clean layout and I’m thankful for his work.
However, his priorities have changed and he is on to bigger and better things. He recently started an small business SEO agency and has been crushing it with a few clients in the first few months. He is also my partner in the e-commerce business and has been spending time with me on that project. As a result, I asked him to stop work on The Mastermind Within and he agreed – he said we have bigger fish to fry with these other businesses.
We are going to crush the remainder of 2017 with our persistence and consistency – I’m excited to see the results of our e-commerce business because it should be relatively passive once it’s all set and done. I’ll provide updates as time goes on (once we launch the product and website).
The Next Few Months
So, now I’m the sole proprietor of The Mastermind Within. Exciting, right? There are four and a half months left in 2017. At the beginning of the year, I outlined that 2017 would be a year of self development and my actions would be building a strong base for the future.
“Your level of success will rarely exceed your level of personal development, because success is something you attract by the person you become.” – Hal Elrod
I’m seeing some success but must stay hungry. Over the next few months, I’m going to continue to post on personal finance and self development. What I love about blogging is I can take this wherever I want – if I want to write more on lifestyle, I can do that. If I want to write more on educational material, I can do that.
Frankly, I want The Mastermind Within to be a source of entertainment and education. I’m going to continue to post on personal finance and self improvement topics, but my writing will not be contained to just those topics. I’ll share with you nuggets of information from my life and how I’m doing with entrepreneurship and my relationships.
I wrote a post, 9 tips to increase your credit score, and while this was a fantastic post, people don’t want dry posts like this. I’m hoping to become a better story teller through my writing and as I mentioned, will look to keep it interesting and fun with stories and entertainment pieces.
Thank you for reading and I’m looking forward to our time growing together as individuals over the coming months.
