Welcome to the twenty-fifth monthly, and first of 2019, Blog Traffic and Income Report for The Mastermind Within!
Each month, I post the traffic statistics and income The Mastermind Within blog has earned and comment on any changes, improvements, and disappointments. This is a recap of sorts for what I’m talking about, what I should be focusing on, and anything I can change.
My primary goals with this site is to help people, with a secondary goal to make it an income stream.
In this report, I want to be as transparent as possible, because I believe true improvement can happen only when you get the raw details of a situation.
What gets measured, gets managed.
This post will take the following form: first, a recap of the various posts written throughout the month. Second, the traffic and income statistics which are gathered from Google Analytics and the various affiliate and ad networks The Mastermind Within takes part in. Third, I will discuss what changes or strategies I have for the next month, February 2019, to try to grow traffic and make money.
As always, any and all feedback is gladly welcomed. I know that I don’t know everything about blogging. (not even close)

January 2019 Post Summary
In January, I met my goal of posting 2 times a week, on Mondays and Fridays.
In January, The Mastermind Within had 9 posts. This month, I talked mainly about finding your Personal Truth, but also highlighted some wins and losses personally. Here are all of this month’s posts:
- Personal Development
- Personal Finance
I loved sharing all that’s going on in my life and hope it inspired you to do better in your life.
I stopped doing The Mastermind Within podcast, and started a new podcast, The Simple Minded Millennial podcast which I’m loving – all about getting Millennials to success through mindfulness and simplicity.
We are 20 podcast episodes into this one and loving it! If you like dad jokes, personal development, and silliness, you’ll definitely want to check it out.
In January, I had 2 guest appearances.
Angela from Tread Lightly, Retire Early was so gracious and let me share my experiences tracking my waste for a month in November on her blog. It was incredibly eye-opening to track my waste for even a week, but after a month of tracking my waste, I had a ton of takeaways and now am living less wasteful!
I also had an interview go live on Al Bell’s website, the Water Whole, and shared my thoughts on blogging and personal finance.
Next… on to the numbers! January was very solid month!
January 2019 Blog Statistics
In January 2019, the blog had 15,764 page views and I made $602.96!! This represents a decrease of 6% in viewership month over month.
January 2018 Google Analytics Summary
Below is taken from my Google Analytics account for this blog to show you the traffic statistics for the site.
I am definitely happy with a solid month in traffic – my second month over 15,000! Almost all days I received over 400 page views – a number I would’ve been ecstatic to hit just once a month at the beginning of last year 🙂
January 2019 Traffic and Income Report
Here’s 2019’s income report. I’ve broken this out into income and I’ve also included expenses, so you can get a better understanding of the costs associated with running a blog.
Also, here is 2018’s for reference. I’ll post this one for at least this month to understand where we came from last year.
In January, I made $602.96 from the blog, and net income for the month was -$867.23.
This month, I hosted a number of pieces of sponsored content (i.e. ads) on this site and was compensated for it 🙂
As you can see above, I paid virtual assistants over $1,000 in January. Currently, I have 4 people working with me: a Pinterest virtual assistant, 2 editors and a content auditor.
Why I’ve Hired 4 People to Make Money Blogging
I know what you are probably thinking: $1,000 is a lot of money to spend on assistants when your blog only made $2,500 all year last year!
A few comments here:
- One of my goals is to make this website into an income stream in 2019.
- I have no interest in selling you anything, but I want to get to a point of traffic where I can put display ads and other ads on my website and earn passive income.
- If I put $5,000 into this website and in 3 months, can earn $500 a month profit, that’s a 10% monthly return on my money. If I put $5,000 into the stock market, at an annual yield of 1-3%, that’s only $50-$150 a year. (Of course, there are a number of lot of other factors here)
- Time is money. I only have limited hours in a day, so to leverage this limited time, I need to invest in my website.
- All of the people I’m working with live in the United States
- A popular strategy among digital small business owners is to hire international workers for a fraction of the cost of an American worker. I’ve done it and paid someone from South Africa $1 an hour to put up shirt designs on a print on demand website!
- You get what you pay for.
- While there are very smart people all over the world, the majority of my website traffic is American, and the majority of my content has an American spin. An editor from overseas isn’t going to have the necessary perspective as someone who was born and raised in the United States
- I want to work with people I can meet someday and create friendships with
- I’ve personally met 2 of the people I’m working with, and with these connections, it makes the work easier and more enjoyable.
Additional Stats for The Mastermind Within Blog
My goal is to continue to grow this blog to reach more people. Money is great, but isn’t what is driving me. It’s more about the community and things I can do with more money.
Here’s some additional statistics on my email list and social media accounts:
Email subscribers, thank you! I’m incredibly glad I’m able to reach people with my content and hopefully I’m making a difference in your life in some way.
Things are growing!
Acquisition and Other Commentary
I’ve shown a picture here of the acquisition statistics from this month and last month. You’ll see that search engine traffic (organic search) is still the main driver.
Google traffic was very solid in the month of January. I’m getting between 200 and 300 search referrals a day.
In January, I did not run any paid ads on Facebook or Pinterest, and also, was not featured on Rockstar Finance or the Financial Diet like I was in December. I was featured on Camp FIRE Finance, however. 🙂
With this strong Google traffic, I’m very happy, and I have a feeling that February is going to be an incredibly strong month.
This feeling is a combination of the work of my Pinterest manager (she creates absolutely amazing pins and I feel my Pinterest account is about to go nuts), and also the content audit should help me in the Google rankings.
I’m dedicated to helping you become better with money and with self improvement, and these changes to my site should help me provide better information and knowledge over time.
With a growing blog and also a growing income at my day job, I’m looking to leverage my money and time by hiring others – by doing this, I hope to continue to scale and grow over time! 🙂
Concluding Thoughts from January
January was a fun month here on the blog. I’m feeling confident about the message I’m putting out, and having a lot of fun writing.
I’m absolutely loving writing, podcasting, and interacting with you, my reader.
If you appreciate what I’m doing, the best thing to do is just send an email saying thanks, or leave a comment on my posts. I don’t make much from this blog at this point and just do it out of the love for self improvement and helping others.
I’m excited for 2019 – by staying consistent, let’s keep this train humming!
Action Steps for February 2019
Consistency is the key to blogging. I can’t just give up because the traffic numbers aren’t there. It’s an every day, every week, every month process. I have to grind, write, promote, grind some more, and eventually, it will be where I want it to be.
This month, I’m going to be changing things up a little to align better with providing value to email subscribers, and align better with my goals.
For emails, I currently have an automated RSS campaign which sends full posts out to my full email list.
I’m going to turn this off and send one personalized email a week. This email will include a focused message on hustling and self improvement.
Why I’m doing this is because I’m going to be focusing in on editing old posts, and creating new and focused content. I’m not exactly sure how this will affect my RSS feed, so I want more control over what is sent to you and and other email subscribers.
We will see how this goes 🙂 I’m excited to tackle this big project. This summer I can relax a little more and spend more time out in the world. It’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately and something I advise you think about as well! The real world isn’t digital!
My work is guided by The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:
The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:
The Mastermind Within hopes to build a collaborative community where ideas can flow openly, and readers can build knowledge and experience amazing personal growth.
Community is always on my mind. It’s not enough to be a keyboard warrior if you want success. True success and happiness comes from your community and surrounding yourself with amazing people and friends.
I’m doing this and loving it. I hope to continue this in 2019!
