Welcome to the twenty-fourth monthly, and last of 2018, Blog Traffic and Income Report for The Mastermind Within!
Each month, I post the traffic statistics and income The Mastermind Within blog has earned and comment on any changes, improvements, and disappointments. This is a recap of sorts for what I’m talking about, what I should be focusing on, and anything I can change.
My primary goals with this site is to help people, with a secondary goal to make it an income stream.
In this report, I want to be as transparent as possible, because I believe true improvement can happen only when you get the raw details of a situation.
What gets measured, gets managed.
This post will take the following form: first, a recap of the various posts written throughout the month. Second, the traffic and income statistics which are gathered from Google Analytics and the various affiliate and ad networks The Mastermind Within takes part in. Third, I will discuss what changes or strategies I have for the next month, January 2019, to try to grow traffic and make money.
As always, any and all feedback is gladly welcomed. I know that I don’t know everything about blogging. (not even close)

December 2018 Post Summary
In December, I met my goal of posting 3 times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays.
In December, The Mastermind Within had 13 posts. This month, I talked about a number of different topics. Here are all of this month’s posts:
- Personal Development
- Personal Finance
I loved sharing all that’s going on in my life and hope it inspired you to do better in your life.
I stopped doing The Mastermind Within podcast, and started a new podcast, The Simple Minded Millennial podcast which I’m loving – all about getting Millennials to success through mindfulness and simplicity.
We are 19 podcast episodes into this one and loving it! If you like dad jokes, personal development, and silliness, you’ll definitely want to check it out.
I didn’t have any guest appearances in December, but was featured on Rockstar Finance and The Financial Diet for my article, What I Learned Tracking Everything for a Month! Thank you for the features 🙂
Next… on to the numbers! December was another record setting month!
December 2018 Blog Statistics
In December 2018, the blog had 16,842 page views and I made $529.16!! A new record in page views!! This represents a increase of 49% in viewership month over month.
December 2018 Google Analytics Summary
Below is taken from my Google Analytics account for this blog to show you the traffic statistics for the site.
I am definitely happy with a record breaking month in traffic – the first month over 15,000!
December 2018 Traffic and Income Report
Here’s December 2018’s income report. I’ve broken this out into income and I’ve also included expenses, so you can get a better understanding of the costs associated with running a blog.
In December, I made $529.16 from the blog, and net income for the month was -$218.53. On the year, the blog brought in $2,520.43 and net income on the year was -$650.46.
This month, I hosted a number of pieces of sponsored content (i.e. ads) on this site and was compensated for it 🙂
Currently, I have 4 people working with me: a Pinterest virtual assistant, two editors and a site auditor. We are working through the site and content audit as we speak. I’m excited to see where this goes in 2019 as this is one of my goals for quarter 1!
My goal is to continue to grow this blog to reach more people. The money is great, but isn’t what is driving me. It’s more about the community and things I can do with more money. I also want to hire out more work as I want to help others grow their hustles and become more successful in their life.
Also notable, I ran some Facebook and Pinterest ads to see what the impact is. The results were okay, with Facebook being a clear winner.
I’m very excited to see where this blog goes in the coming months!
Here’s some additional statistics on my email list and social media accounts:
Email subscribers, thank you! I’m incredibly glad I’m able to reach people with my content and hopefully I’m making a difference in your life in some way.
Things are growing!
Acquisition and Other Commentary
On August 1st, a new Google search algorithm went into affect and my traffic took a hit. This has been the main contributor to the 10%+ decrease in traffic in August and September.
Just like in personal finance, this showed me first hand that MULTIPLE INCOME STREAMS are the key. While I haven’t been focusing on Quora and Pinterest as much, I still have my email list and other areas where I can promote posts to get traffic.
I’ve also shown a picture here of the acquisition statistics from this month and last month. You’ll see that search engine traffic (organic search) is still the main driver.
Google traffic was very solid in the month of December, and with the features, solid social media traffic and also an uptick in direct traffic, the distribution of acquisition was much better.
While this is good, it’s like personal finance, where the goal is to diversify your traffic streams so if one goes dry, you’ll still be able to drive traffic.
At the end of the day though, I’m dedicated to helping others; helping you with your personal finance and self improvement journey.
As I discussed earlier briefly, and have discussed in previous blog reports, I’ve seen some success with Pinterest recently with the help of my Pinterest virtual assistant.
Also, during the month of December, I started messing around with Facebook ads, and did see some decent results. I ended up spending about $70 and received roughly 750 hits – pretty good for Facebook ads. Next, I need to figure out how I can spend money and send that traffic to some sort of email sign-up offer, freebie, or product.
With a growing blog and also a growing income at my day job, I’m looking to leverage my money and time by hiring others – by doing this, I hope to continue to scale and grow over time! 🙂
Concluding Thoughts from December
December was a fun month here on the blog. I’m feeling confident about the message I’m putting out, and having a lot of fun writing.
I’m absolutely loving writing, podcasting, and interacting with you, my reader.
If you appreciate what I’m doing, the best thing to do is just send an email saying thanks, or leave a comment on my posts. I don’t make much from this blog at this point and just do it out of the love for self improvement and helping others.
I’m excited for 2019 – by staying consistent, let’s keep this train humming!
Action Steps for January 2019
Consistency is the key to blogging. I can’t just give up because the traffic numbers aren’t there. It’s an every day, every week, every month process. I have to grind, write, promote, grind some more, and eventually, it will be where I want it to be.
This month, I’m going to start a series about being authentic and living out your Truth.
From my yoga practice, we talk a lot about how you have the answers to your life inside of you. Trusting your intuition and being self-aware will lead towards getting to your goals, and through living out your Truth, you will find satisfaction.
All of my work and writing is inspired and guided by The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:
The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:

Community is always on my mind. It’s not enough to be a keyboard warrior if you want success. True success and happiness comes from your community and surrounding yourself with amazing people and friends.
December was great and I hope to continue this into 2019!
