Welcome to the seventeenth monthly, and fifth of 2018, Blog Traffic and Income Report for The Mastermind Within! Each month, I post the traffic statistics and income The Mastermind Within blog has earned and comment on any changes, improvements, and disappointments. I want to be as transparent as possible, because true improvement can happen only when you get the raw details of a situation.
This post will take the following form: first, a recap of the various posts written throughout the month. Second, the traffic and income statistics which are gathered from Google Analytics and the various affiliate and ad networks The Mastermind Within takes part in. Third, I will discuss what changes or strategies I have for the next month, June 2018, to try to grow traffic and make money. As always, any and all feedback is gladly welcomed. I know that I don’t know everything about blogging. (not even close)

In May, The Mastermind Within had 13 posts. I made May a month where I posted all about learning and how to become a better learner. Almost all of the posts were about personal development.

I loved writing and sharing my thoughts on the subject of learning, and learning how to become a better piano player!
Also, I featured Cody from Fly to FI where he wrote about why it’s so important to take action if you want success: The Importance of Taking Action: Success Through Failure
If you’d like to write a guest post for me, I’m open to hearing your ideas. (please don’t make me come up with something for you)
May was the fourth month of The Mastermind Within Podcast! I wish I had started this podcast earlier… it’s so much fun, and a great way to network and learn more about different concepts and topics.
After recording, I end up going back, listening, and then editing each episode to ensure it makes sense and the sound quality is solid.
In May, I published 5 episodes:
- How to Create a $1,000 a Month Side Hustle with Maggie from Northern Expenditure – Episode 14
- Designing Interactive and User-Friendly Web Applications featuring Adam from Minafi – Episode 15
- How to Write Copy like a Pro with Saad from Copy Candid – Episode 16
- Freelancer Personal Finance Success with Ally-Jane Grossan – Episode 17
- Building Wealth with Real Estate featuring Leo from I Saved 5k – Episode 18
Many podcasts look to highlight awesome people doing awesome things. Most of those podcasts just stop at the what though – and don’t dig into the how and why. On The Mastermind Within podcast, I’m looking to really dig into the strategies and tactics which are being applied by these impressive individuals.
I had three guest appearances in May.
My first guest post was an interview on Financial Health and Wealth. Jake, the owner of Financial Health and Wealth, posts money expert posts every Tuesday. I chatted with him about personal finance and why having an abundance mindset is so key. Here’s my interview about personal finance.
My second guest post was on Keep Thrifty about personal development. I share how simple daily disciplines lead to massive success over time. Check out my post here: Success Follows Personal Development
My third guest post was an interview on Making Momentum. Scott gave me the opportunity to talk side hustling, self improvement, personal finance, and more. Check it out here: interview about side hustles on Making Momentum.
Also notable, I was featured on Camp FIRE Finance one for the following posts and podcasts:
- May 26th feature on Camp FIRE Finance for the article
Ty , the owner of Camp FIRE Finance, is doing a great job curating awesome content over there! You definitely need to check that new site out!
In June, I have a few more guest posts going live – I’m definitely excited for these!
Next… on to the numbers! May was another record setting month!
May 2018 Blog Statistics
In May 2018, the blog had 11,729 page views and I made $88.15!! Big money!! (Not close to retiring off of this 😉 ) This represents a solid increase of 9% in viewership month over month.
May 2018 Google Analytics Summary
10,000+ page views in April was a huge milestone and I’m incredibly happy to see us pass that again.
May 2018 Traffic and Income Report
Here’s May 2018’s income report. I’ve broken this out into income and I’ve also included expenses, so you can get a better understanding of the costs associated with running a blog.
In May, I made $88.15 from the blog, and net income for the month was -$133.50.
You can see I had a decent month from MyFinance (which 50% gets taken in fees), and I also had 1 piece of sponsored content shown on the site.
I also hired someone to help with Pinterest, as I was busy with other things and had to clean up a few things.
Here’s some additional statistics on my email list and social media accounts:
For those of you on my email list, thank you! I’m incredibly glad I’m able to reach people with my content and hopefully I’m making a difference in your life in some way.
If you are on my email list, I hope you have used and enjoyed the freebies you get when you sign up!
Acquisition and Other Commentary
On the acquisition front, search engine traffic is picking up in a big way. I’m very pleased with that, and it shows that while yes, SEO and making your website search engine friendly is tough, it will pay off in the future.
I had a few days with over 200 (!!!) search engine hits, and don’t see that slowing down anytime soon.
Here’s a great resource for you to learn more about SEO.
Quora, Pinterest, and email list traffic have been interesting to watch. I’ve been pinning roughly 15 times a day on Pinterest, and got back on Quora, but the main driver is still search engine traffic.
I’m trying to push on these 3 fronts, and hopefully something will stick as I’m just trying to stay consistent as time goes on.
Concluding Thoughts from May
May was a fantastic month traffic wise because of a few guest posts and consistent efforts adding up over time in the search engine department.
I’m absolutely loving blogging, writing, and interacting with you, my reader. I really enjoy writing, inspiring, and putting my thoughts into the world.
I’m loving how I’m spending my time, and I’m excited for the rest of 2018 – by staying consistent, the train will keep humming! My schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday is working well. Look forward to the continuation of great content!

Action Steps for June 2018
Consistency is the key to blogging. I can’t just go hard 6 months and expect to make thousands of dollars. It’s an every day, every week, every month process. I have to grind, write, promote, grind some more, and eventually, it will be where I want it to be.
This month, I just want to stay consistent. I made some solid gains in the last 6 months, but really, I’m just getting started.
In the back of my head, I want to write more on personal finance, and I may also consider doing a written interview series. One other thing on my mind is an email drip campaign for subscribers.
This takes a lot of time to implement, but should pay off if done correctly.
All of my work and writing is inspired and guided by The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:
The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:
The Mastermind Within hopes to build a collaborative community where ideas can flow openly, and readers can build knowledge and experience amazing personal growth.
Community is always on my mind. It’s not enough to be a keyboard warrior if you want success. True success and happiness comes from your community and surrounding yourself with amazing people and friends.
That’s why I will be featuring many successful individuals on my podcast in the coming weeks and months. I’m really excited to get that rolling and tap into another market of masterminds!
May was another record setting month, but I’m excited because this is just the start.
Readers: What tips, tricks, and suggestions could you share with me to improve The Mastermind Within? How did your website perform in May?
