Blog Traffic and Income Report – October 2017

Erik Entrepreneurship, Thoughts of a Mastermind 15 Comments

Welcome to the tenth monthly Blog Traffic and Income Report for The Mastermind Within! For my readers, each month, I post the traffic statistics and income The Mastermind Within blog has earned and comment on any changes, improvements, and disappointments. I want to be as transparent as possible, because true improvement can happen only when you get the raw details of a situation.

This post will take the following form: first, a recap of the various posts written throughout the month. Second, the traffic and income statistics which are gathered from Google Analytics and the various affiliate and ad networks The Mastermind Within takes part in. Third, I will discuss what changes or strategies I have for the next month, November 2017, to try to grow traffic and make money. As always, any and all feedback is gladly welcomed. I know that I don’t know everything about blogging. (not even close)

October 2017 Post Summary

In October, I was grinding to get things in a good spot before vacation, and then I was on vacation for 17 days. I only posted 3 times:

I’ve received a lot of positive feedback on my FinCon post, and I’m really excited to go next year. Vacation was amazing, and I’m recharged and refocused to continue to grow this blog and be active in the community.

I’d been averaging 10-15 posts a month through the beginning of this year. I’m inspired from being around some amazing people at FinCon, and have 15 post ideas that are in the works.

Guest Appearances

I had the honor of being featured on the Fire Drill Podcast with J and Gwen. I loved recording this episode, even though J went Dr. Phil on me 😉 ha! I’d highly recommend you check this out if you haven’t – it’s quite funny and also I share some thoughts on that I haven’t necessarily shared here on the blog.

In November, I have a few guest posts on the horizon that I working on.

Next… on to the numbers!

October 2017 Blog Statistics

In October 2017, the blog had 2,682 page views and I made $1.83!! Big money!! (You think I can retire off this? Joking!) This represents a decrease of 1% in viewership month over month.

October 2017 Google Analytics Summary

October was down from September in terms of traffic. Traffic decreased 1% on a month over month basis. I had an increase in the number of users month over month by 0.6%, while the bounce rate and pages per session had negative changes month over month.

In the Income Report, you can see the breakdown of revenue for the month of October: I have affiliates links throughout the site from Bluehost, Amazon, MyFinance, SoFi, and Xtheme. In addition, I utilize Google AdSense. As the page views increase, these numbers should increase. Time will tell; this is a fun experiment!

I am very excited the number of email subscribers following The Mastermind Within has continued to increase! THANK YOU READERS AND SUBSCRIBERS 🙂

google analytics october 2017 blog acquistionSomething to note: my Google traffic is up. but at the same time, my referral traffic is quite a bit down, which typically will come from guest posts and commenting. These are two areas that definitely were not happening since a lot of the time in October I was away from my computer.

This means I’m leaving a lot of traffic on the table since, while most of my traffic in October was from search engines which is good, there is probably 1,000 to 2,000 views that I could get just by being more active and engaged in the community.

Being active is something I’m going to work on going forward. For example, Cody from Dollar Habits grew his Twitter to over 1,900 followers before launching his blog – just by starting conversations and putting himself out there. In December, I’m planning a blogging series, so stayed tuned for that 😉

As you can see above, 266 subscribers and 28,725 views in 10 months is decent, but far from great (especially if I want to make this a solid income stream).

By staying consistent, the train will keep humming! I’m sick of being mediocre. FinCon lit a fire under me and I’m back at it. A schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday sounds good to me going forward. Look forward to some great content coming up.

Action Steps for November

Consistency is the key to blogging. I posted 3 times in October and it showed in my page views. Getting back to 10 posts a month, and having these posts be well thought out and solid would do wonders for traffic. With 260+ people on The Mastermind Within email list, that could equate to traffic in the 5,000 – 7,000 view range with increased exposure in the community and continued success from search engines.

Like I said, I have 15 post ideas and I’m going to also get back to posting book reviews. Finishing the year strong is essential.

Another thing I’m looking into is Pinterest. At FinCon, Millennial Boss showed me how to pin quality images and get views. She drives 10,000+ people to her blog through Pinterest a month, and she is a very good marketer. I ended up pinning a few pins, and then BAM. My account got suspended. I’ve emailed Pinterest, but we will see. I was hoping to get a traffic boost from them, but I guess that will have to wait.

The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:

The Mastermind Within hopes to build a collaborative community where ideas can flow openly, and readers can build knowledge and experience amazing personal growth.

Community has been my mind a lot since FinCon. In the coming months, I will be getting more involved with meetups and the Personal Finance community. It’s great to be friends behind the keyboard, but getting face-to-face interactions is how real connections are made.

I’m really pumped for the next few months. 2018 is going to be epic!

How did October go for your blog or website? What tips or tricks could you share with me to improve The Mastermind Within?

After the transition of blog ownership, I can tell your posts have more of your personal opinions and stories and are more relateable than before. Keep it up! 🙂

Thanks for the comment Ms. FAF. I really appreciate your thoughts on how my posts have been more personal. I’m going to continue to look to do that and talk about my life and how I’m going with my finances.

Yeah, it was very fun. There were workshops every single hour of each day, but also people would just get together and talk shop.
