Blog Traffic and Income Report – March 2017

Erik Entrepreneurship, Thoughts of a Mastermind 24 Comments

Welcome to the third monthly Blog Traffic and Income Report for The Mastermind Within! Each month, we will be posting our blog statistics to give readers an understanding of the nuts and bolts of what Erik and Henry are doing and achieving here at The Mastermind Within.

This post will take the following form: first, a recap of the various posts written by Erik and Henry throughout the month. Second, the traffic and income statistics which are gathered from Google Analytics and the various affiliate and ad networks The Mastermind Within takes part in. Third, we will discuss what changes or strategies we have for the next month, April 2017, to try to boost traffic. As always, any and all feedback is gladly welcomed. I know that I don’t know everything about blogging. (not even close)

March 2017 Post Summary

In March, Henry and Erik posted 17 times. As mentioned in our goals post, we want to post 250 times in 2017. In January and February, we posted 47 times. With 17 posts in March, that makes 64 for the year. We are on pace for 256 posts in 2017; we just need to stay consistent and we can accomplish this!

Henry and Erik had a few posts on the blog and brand redesign, the February Traffic Report, and their goals update:

In addition to these posts, we were busy making a handful of pages for book recommendations, personal finance consulting, and our new products. These pages are not counted as posts.

Henry had a few posts on working out and his money story. Here is a list of the non-book review posts Henry wrote in February:

Erik had posts on scratching his entrepreneurial itch, homemade sushi, his February update on his book reading, and becoming a model. Here is a list of the non-book review posts Erik wrote in March:

March 2017 Blog Statistics

March 2017 Google AnalyticsΒ  Summary

March 2017 Blog Traffic Report

March was an interesting month for traffic. In the middle of the month, we started focusing on SEO. As a result, by the end of the month, more traffic was coming in from search engines. Our bounce rate is lower, pages per session are higher, and average session duration is higher than February. These are all good signs.

March 2017 Income Report

March Blog Income Report

In the Income Report, you can see the breakdown of revenue for the month of March: we have affiliates links throughout the site from Bluehost, Amazon, MyFinance, SoFi, and Xtheme. In addition, we utilize Google AdSense. As the page views increase, these numbers should increase. Time will tell; this is a fun experiment!

We got 2 orders from Amazon which resulted in $1.14. While not a lot, it proves some of our affiliate links work. MyFinance is a really cool affiliate program which you can see at the bottom of this post. They have high quality content which is not spammy. By getting a few conversions, we were able to make $28.15 on these affiliate links!

In April, we are going to focus on increasing traffic. Henry and Erik are posting on Quora, as well as focusing on SEO. Jake, the newest contributor, is writing a number of entrepreneurship posts and an ebook. Finally, we will get out more products to increase the diversity of potential income streams.

As you can see above, 33 subscribers and 7,782 views in 3 months is far from great (especially if we want to take this full time.)

Action Steps for April

We have been doing okay for 3 months of blogging. For the most part, we’re excited about the possibilities and opportunities for this blog. To increase traffic in the third month, we tried to drive traffic through different social media sites. So far, Twitter and StumbleUpon have been the two sites we have been using. StumbleUpon has loved our book reviews. I’ve heard that Pinterest is a big driver of traffic; I want to explore it in April.

Also, we spent a fair amount of time commenting on other people’s blogs. We do this for two reasons: one, it is part of our mission statement. We want to build a community where knowledge can accumulate and ideas can prosper.

The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:

The Mastermind Within hopes to build a collaborative community where ideas can flow openly, and readers can build knowledge and experience amazing personal growth.

The second reason is it is a fairly decent method to get traction in the blogosphere. By commenting on the following sites, we were able to get a majority of our page views:

In the coming months, we will keep providing value through posts and products, continue to be consistent with our posting, look into SEO, and continue to grow each and every day! πŸ™‚

What do you think is 5,000 views and $150 possible for April?!?

How did March go for your blog or website? What tips or tricks could you share with us to improve our blog?

      Thanks for stopping by FTF and for the compliment. I was referred by another blogger and got it set up. I can pass along your info if you’d like.

  1. Erik, this is awesome! Congrats! You guys are killing it in 3 months time — and I truly mean that. You’re clearly working your tails off and the results are coming in.

    I started Run The Money in January, but I’m not at your numbers yet. I’m enrolled in Elite Blog Academy, so I’m working that hard to get my blog into shape.

    Question for you … I love the static front page. I was looking to do something similar for a few weeks now, but can’t find a great resource. Are you using a plugin to get your buttons to look like that? Or are you simply using tables with images? You can email me at [email protected] if you rather talk there. Thanks!

      Thanks David for your kind words. I’m really enjoying this as well πŸ™‚

      For the static front page, we did the following:

      • Change the Page Template in the Page attributes section – I use the “Layout-Full Width” template for the home page
      • We used Photoshop to get the images the way we wanted, and then stuck them in tables

      One last bit, to get responsive tables, I use the following CSS code (note: this isn’t completely responsive but does the trick about 95% of the time)

      @media screen and (max-width: 600px) {
      table {width:100%;}
      thead {display: none;}
      tr:nth-of-type(2n) {background-color: inherit;}
      tbody td {display: block; text-align:center;}
      tbody td:before {
      content: attr(data-th);
      display: block;
      text-align:center; } }

      Does this help?

      Thanks for stopping by Dave πŸ™‚ Have a good one – Erik

  2. Great job with expanding your reach with more social media platforms. Keep on expanding and add more tool to help drive more traffic to your site.

    I am facebook a lot and joined quite a few blogging groups. I also started to use Yoast SEO (thanks for the recommendation) and Grammarly to improve my content. These two tools are great.

      Hey Ben, the twitter growth is kind of shameful… we took a few hours on a weekend and followed over 800 people with similar #’s…

  3. Congrats on the growing success with your blog! I am about 40 page views away from 2,000 which I am super proud of accomplishing in less than 3 months time. Lately I’ve been focusing on generating traffic from Pinterest and exploring the realm of group boards. I haven’t bitten the bullet to pay for any blogging resources yet because I have not yet monetized the blog. My next goal is to research different methods of monetization and which I think would work for my blog audience. Thank you for listing my blog in your recap – I’ve enjoyed becoming blogosphere friends!

      Thanks Mrs. Daisy for stopping by. To be honest with you, we haven’t paid anything for blogging resources as a lot of it is out there for free on the internet.

      That being said, it’s figuring out what is good information and what is bad information.

      We have spent a few hundred dollars on various applications (sumo pro for collecting emails for example).

      Best of luck in the future!

      Wow MSM! 30k viewers is awesome given you have been blogging for what, 6 months? Great work. Do you get a lot of viewers through search engines?

  4. Looks like a great month. I love the transparency of traffic and blog income. SEO is a big help to drive traffic as well as commenting on other blogs in your niche. Can’t go wrong with that growth rate of subscribers and twitter followers though. Your site will only grow more over time. Keep at it!

      Thanks Dividend Daze – it was pretty good internally, in April and May, we should see the fruits of our labor start to shine!

      Should be a great experience either way – life is about taking chances, making mistakes, and learning!

      Hey Francesca, yes we started in January. We are looking to both go full time with this at some point so 2 people is necessary! MyFinance is an affiliate program – you can see their ads at the bottom of the post.

  5. Congrats on a great first 3 months! I can’t believe you’ve only been around since January. Seems like it’s been longer than that πŸ™‚

    Keep up the good work!
