Blog Traffic and Income Report – November 2017

Erik Entrepreneurship, Thoughts of a Mastermind 22 Comments

Welcome to the eleventh monthly Blog Traffic and Income Report for The Mastermind Within! Each month, I post the traffic statistics and income The Mastermind Within blog has earned and comment on any changes, improvements, and disappointments. I want to be as transparent as possible, because true improvement can happen only when you get the raw details of a situation.

This post will take the following form: first, a recap of the various posts written throughout the month. Second, the traffic and income statistics which are gathered from Google Analytics and the various affiliate and ad networks The Mastermind Within takes part in. Third, I will discuss what changes or strategies I have for the next month, December 2017, to try to grow traffic and make money. As always, any and all feedback is gladly welcomed. I know that I don’t know everything about blogging. (not even close)

November 2017 Post Summary

In November, I did very well posting. After coming back from FinCon, I was recharged, reenergized, and excited to be consistent in my posting and engagement. I’ve posted Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the past 4 weeks, and don’t see an end to this streak 🙂

In November, I posted 13 times. These posts were wide ranging in nature, but followed where I’m looking to go with The Mastermind Within: Personal Development, Personal Finance, and Entrepreneurship:

Finally, in the personal finance realm, a friend of mine, Owais from the Simple Money Man Blog, wrote a guest post for The Mastermind Within: Better Later than Too Late.

I really enjoyed writing many of these posts. I was able to showcase some of my success with house hacking, provide interesting and actionable advice with my personal development posts, and set myself up for success in December and the new year 🙂

Guest Appearances

The Mastermind Within was featured on Rockstar Finance in November! My post from May, Looking for a Wife to Reduce Taxes! was featured in the middle of the month, and this lead to a massive spike in traffic (more on that in a second).

IRockstar Finance‘d highly recommend you check out Rockstar Finance – there’s a ton of great resources and links out there.

In addition to being featured on Rockstar Finance, I did an interview on my friend Ben’s podcast The Millennial Commute, where I talked about my experience with almost buying a house in April, how I’m doing with my blog and business, and what 2018 looks like for me: Millennial Commute Interview.

I’m looking to get more exposure through guest posts and podcast interviews. In December, I have 2 already out for publishing and a few more on the horizon. 2018 is going to be a big year!

Next… on to the numbers! November was my best month to date!!!

November 2017 Blog Statistics

In November 2017, the blog had 7,023 page views and I made $43.45!! Big money!! (You think I can retire off this? It’s getting there!) This represents a increase of 162% in viewership month over month.

November 2017 Google Analytics Summary

November was up big from October in terms of traffic. Traffic increased 162% on a month over month basis. Bounce rate is ticking up over time… I’ll have to look into this.

November 2017 Traffic and Income Report

In the Income Report, you can see the breakdown of revenue for the month of November: I have affiliates links throughout the site from Bluehost, Amazon, MyFinance, SoFi, and Xtheme. In addition, I utilize Google AdSense. As the page views increase, these numbers should increase. Time will tell; this is a fun experiment!

Being featured on Rockstar Finance helped quite a bit in terms of traffic. I hit my all time high in one day with nearly 2,000 page views in a day! Even without being featured on Rockstar Finance, I was probably going to set an all time monthly high, as through 15 days, I was at 2,500 page views.

Getting the blog to grow makes me excited to grow it even more. Thank you for being a reader, and I’m looking forward to providing more great content.

As you can see above, 328 subscribers and 35,748 views in 11 months is decent, but far from great (especially if I want to make this a solid income stream).

By staying consistent, the train will keep humming! I’m sick of being mediocre. FinCon lit a fire under me and I’m back at it. The schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday is working well. Look forward to some great content coming up.

Action Steps for December

Consistency is the key to blogging. While I posted 13 times in November and it showed in my page views, consistency is key. I can’t just go hard 1 month and expect to make millions of dollars. It’s an every day, every week, every month process. I have to grind, write, promote, grind some more, and eventually, it will be where I want it to be.

Finishing 2017 strong is essential.

As I mentioned in my last post, I’m getting involved with Pinterest, and will be continuing to try to build a following on that platform. Also, as mentioned in my last post, The 12 Days of Personal Finance are coming to town!!! This weekend, I’m going to be going through my readers’ answers and writing out the 12 posts. Will be a fun time 🙂

All of my work and writing is inspired and guided by The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:

The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:

The Mastermind Within hopes to build a collaborative community where ideas can flow openly, and readers can build knowledge and experience amazing personal growth.

Community has been my mind a lot since FinCon. It’s not enough to be a keyboard warrior if you want success. True success and happiness comes from your community and surrounding yourself with amazing people and friends.

I’m really pumped for the next few months. 2018 is going to be epic!

How did November go for your blog or website? What tips or tricks could you share with me to improve The Mastermind Within?

  1. Hey, Erik. Thanks for the update it. Thirteen posts in a month is pretty damn impressive. And I’m glad to see the website is starting to pick up steam. Bravo, my friend.

  3. Erik, Very nice summary. Very helpful to a new blogger like me. A couple of questions. What is MyFinance? Have you thought of longer term monetization strategies yet? Or are you just focused on building readership? Thanks for sharing this. Tom

You are welcome. Feel free to keep asking!

For me, I’m focusing on building a readership. To make any substantial money, focus should be on getting readers to your blog – such as with Pinterest, Twitter, etc.

Eventually, I will make more tweaks to optimize for money purposes, but that’s not what I’m looking to do in the next 3-6 months.

MyFinance is an affiliate program which has nice looking ads placed on your site. See the 3×2 Recommended block at the end of my post? That’s from MyFinance. They do a really nice job of making it look non-spammy.

  4. Congrats on the awesome month! All time record of traffic, featured on RockStar Finance, blog income monthly record, and refreshed/ energized from FinCon. Everything is looking up.

I am trying to get into the Pinterest game myself. Feel free to follow me and I’ll return the favor. I would like to get a tailwind tribe together soon and you would probably make a great addition to the group once it gets going.
