The Mastermind Within October 2018 Goals Check-in

At the beginning of 2018, I set a bunch of goals for myself. This October 2018 goals check-in is the second accountability check for myself – to ensure I’m on track, and to make sure I’m doing what is necessary for success.

“What gets measured, gets managed” is one of my core philosophies.  Tracking my progress throughout the year is as important as the goals.

“A great attitude becomes a great day, which becomes a great month, which becomes a great year, which becomes a great life.”  ~ Mandy Hale

“Only you can control your future.” ~ Dr. Seuss

“Little by little one walks far.” ~ Peruvian Proverb

My Goals

Goals are very important for success. If I don’t know where I’m going, don’t track what I’m doing, then I’m definitely not going to be able to get there.

In 2017, I set out to try and do a number of things: read 75 books, post 175 times on The Mastermind Within, buy a rental property, and save money. I wanted to gain experience through learning, doing, and pushing my boundaries, and while I wasn’t successful in all of my pursuits, I was able to grow and become better each and every month.

In 2018, I’m looking to build on my success in 2017, and continue to push myself to achieve great things. 2017 was building the base and laying the foundation, and 2018 will be lifting off towards new heights.

My Blogging Goals

I really enjoy blogging. I love writing, influencing others with my words, providing great value to my readers, working on my communication skills, interacting with other bloggers, and learning how to market online.

My goal for blogging is to continue to grow my blog in accordance with The Mastermind Within Mission Statement:

The Mastermind Within hopes to build a collaborative community where ideas can flow openly, and readers can build knowledge and experience amazing personal growth.

This blog is my main side hustle and something I love to do each and every day. While I have 2-3 other side projects going on in my life, I want to prioritize the growth of this blog because I know I’ll be able to reach many people with my words.

My Personal Goals

My personal goals follow from my favorite quote:

“Your level of success is rarely exceeded by your level of personal development, because success is something you attract by the person you become.” – The Miracle Morning

Last year, I wanted to push the envelope and learn a lot. I wanted to read 75 books in 2017. I read a bunch of books in the first 6 months, and fell off in the second half of the year.  While I learned a ton, reading that much is too much.

My personal goals include learning and growing through reading and coursework, staying in shape through different workouts and sports, and continuing to gain exposure in the world through travel.

Actions To Achieve My Goals

reaching goals through actionsActions are the key to success. Simple daily and weekly disciplines added up over time will produce extreme results. That’s what I will be focusing on in 2018 – the actions which will bring me success:

  • Write 3 Posts a Week
  • Write 10 Quora Answers a Week
  • Pin 10 Pins a Week
  • Write 10 Guest Posts
  • Perform 5 Podcast Interviews
  • Read 2 Books a Month
  • Lift Weights 3 Times a Week
  • Practice Yoga 2 Times a Week
  • Max Out Retirement Accounts
  • Spend at Least One Weekend a Month Outside of My House

Here’s how I’m doing on my goals.

Write 3 Posts a Week

In October, I met my goal of posting 3 times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays.

In October, The Mastermind Within had 13 posts. This month, I talked mostly about personal development and how we can focus on becoming a better version of ourselves. Here are all of this month’s posts:

Success!

Write 10 Quora Answers a Week

On Quora, I was not active.

I’ve been focusing on the content on The Mastermind Within, and want it to have A+ content since this is where I ultimately want the conversation – not on some other site.

Write 10 Guest Posts

I had 1 guest post go live in October at Simplistic Steph’s site. I talked about getting to a 6 figure salary with patience and consistency.

I’ve had 14 guest posts in 2018!

Success!

Perform 5 Podcast Interviews

I did record a podcast which should be coming out sometime soon. Other than that, I’ve done 5 podcast interviews in 2018!

Read 2 Books a Month

I am about half way through 6-8 books on economics, sustainability, politics, and woodworking…

Lift Weight 3 Times a Week

I started walking home from work, and have been back to doing body weight exercises before work. I’m figuring out my routine and am excited to roll it out!

Practice Yoga 2 Times a Week

At the end of June, I joined a yoga studio and went twice. In July, I ended up going 5 times, but now have stopped after my 30 day intro pass ended.. I really enjoyed it, but the pass would go to $85 a month, and I’m not sure it’s worth that at this point in my practice.

I didn’t do this in October.

Fail.

Max Out Retirement Accounts

On the second day of January, I put $5,500 into my Roth IRA. For my 401(k), I’ve put in $16,431 this year, and will be contributing 10% of my paycheck going forward.

Success!

Spend at Least One Weekend a Month Outside of My House

I did 1 trips in October.

Two weekends ago, I went up into northern Minnesota to visit a friend’s cabin. We had some great times playing games, drinking, and being loud in the middle of nowhere 🙂

Success!

Other Comments on the Month of October

Unleash The mastermind Within

At the beginning of the year, I threw out some pretty hairy and scary goals. While I’m not succeeding on all of those goals, I’m still doing pretty well.

I’m absolutely loving blogging, podcasting, and writing. It’s awesome that I’m seeing some success on the blog growth front and making a difference in people’s lives.

Things are shaking and growing. It’s an exciting time in the world here… lots to do, lots to see, and lots to improve on.

October had a tough ending with a breakup and some bad moments, but I’m re-energized and ready to crush the rest of the year.

2019 is going to be an amazing year. I can feel it in my bones.

These next 3 to 15 months are going to be incredibly exciting and challenging. I’m looking forward to sharing my life with you, and also helping you with your life.

Conclusion

October was a very different month and I’m excited for the future 🙂 I’m seeing growth on this blog, podcast, my side hustles, and my business. Life is good!

In November, I’m going to be doing something different. I’m going to be tracking EVERYTHING. I’m talking expenses, food, sleep, exercise, waste, and work time. I’m going to treat myself like a little lab rat 😉 haha. It will be interesting to see my monthly habits after tracking and sharing these results with you.

Hopefully this inspires you to become better through tracking. What gets measured, gets managed!

One of my principles is trying to live in abundance and understanding the energy you put into the world WILL come back to you at some point. Put out energy and things will come back to you.

Super excited for this next month! Things are rolling and moving in a big way!!

Readers: how was your October? What goals do you have in 2018? Are you on track to meet those goals?

Erik
